About

Project Family First is here for Black families in Oregon. We know the child welfare system can be overwhelming, confusing, and unfair. We believe that families are strongest when they stay together, and we provide genuine support. Someone to walk with you through the process, help you understand what's happening, connect you to resources that fit your family and culture, and provide ongoing support when you need it. Our goal is to keep your family together safely, and if your children are ever in foster care, we work to bring them home as quickly and safely as possible. We're led by people who understand your experience, and we're building a community where Black families have the support they need and deserve.

Support

  • Community Defense

Project Family First provides family advocacy and case navigation to Black families in Oregon's child welfare system. We work to prevent unnecessary foster care placements and facilitate prompt, safe reunification when separation occurs. Our culturally responsive services include case navigation, resource connections, family support, and strengthening community networks. Finally, we address the systemic factors that contribute to disproportionate representation, longer stays, and higher termination rates for Black children.

  • Mutual Aid

Project Family First provides limited mutual aid assistance to current clients on an as-needed basis. Current clients should speak directly with their case manager to discuss potential mutual aid needs and eligibility.
