A Child’s Dream Altadena
About
A Child’s Dream – Altadena centers the sacred liberty of family integrity. Informed by Indigenous traditions and rooted in lived experience, we envision a world in which all families are free. Free from regulation. Free from surveillance. Free to raise their children within their communities, cultures, and homes, grounded in the wisdom that has always existed within.
We organize our work around four interconnected pillars of action, inspired by the Native teachings of the Four Directions:
- Pillar One: North - Guidance and Endurance Through Deep Peer Support and Systems Navigation
- Pillar Two: South - Growth and Connection Through Community Education and Resource Building
- Pillar Three: West - Cleansing Renewal Through Healing Justice
- Pillar Four: East - Visioning New Worlds Through Advocacy Rooted in Lived Experience
We believe in families. We believe in community. And we believe that with the right support, every family has the power to stay together, to heal, and to thrive

Healing & Wellness
Pillar One: North - Wisdom, Guidance and Endurance Through Deep Peer Support and Systems Navigation We walk alongside families facing harsh conditions by providing in-depth, culturally grounded peer support and systems navigation for families facing DCFS involvement in LA County - centering those most often denied care and dignity by the system, including Black and indigenous families, veterans, and those living in poverty. Our team walks alongside families through every step, offering not just information, but presence, strategy, and care rooted in lived experience.

Technical Assistance
Pillar Two: South - Growth and Connection Through Community Education and Resource Building. We light fires within our communities via workshops, tools, and accessible information for parents, kinship caregivers, and community members—especially those supporting families before systems get involved. From Know Your Rights trainings to financial empowerment workshops, resource guides, and drop-in sessions, we equip people with what they need to protect, support, and strengthen their families.
-
Community Defense
Pillar Three: West - Cleansing Renewal Through Healing Justice We create intentional space for deep healing and communal restoration, drawing upon Native and ancestral wisdom to tend to wounds that systems cannot reach. Through ceremony, storytelling, community gatherings, and shared care, we support the release of historical trauma and nurture the renewal of spirit, family, and land. This pillar honors the grief we carry and the strength we reclaim, grounding us in connection, sovereignty, and enduring resilience
-
Policy & Advocacy
Pillar Four: East - Visioning New Worlds Through Advocacy Rooted in Lived Experience We celebrate new possibilities via the lived experience of our team and the families we serve to advocate for policy change at the local, state, and federal levels. Our advocacy is grounded in truth and led by those most impacted—ensuring that decisions made in halls of power reflect the realities on the ground and open pathways for justice, not punishment.
